The LCD television is great in small placesThe LCD television will fit where larger TVs can not. The term LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Diode. If you want a flat panel TV, you can choose either a LCD TV or plasma TV. It is in the electronics that the LCD differs from the plasma TV.How does the LCD make a picture?LCD TVs are available in a few variations. The first is the conventional LCD panel, but isn't only used in televisions.

LCDs are used in many other electronic technologies like microwaves, digital clocks, calculators, and stereos. In the television, the LCD comes in the design called Twisted Nematic (TM). It is a naturally twisted crystalline structure that reacts to electric currents in predictable manners. The currents cause it to untwist to different degrees based on the voltage given. These TN crystals are stuck between panes of polarized glass and the untwisting allows different amounts of light to pass through. Most agree that if you are purchasing a flat television panel smaller than 37", you should buy a LCD TV.

Larger LCD panels tend to not be as crisp. You will find that the plasma TV is better, if bigger. There are two exceptions if the room is very bright, the LCD is superior and LCD also is more resistant to burn in from sources like computers and TV video game consoles. LCD can burn out but occur much less than earlier models. Many models are now High Definition (HDTV) capable as well. The life-span of the LCD is tremendous as well and outlasts your old CRT TV.

This makes it a great investment and valuable in your house.Want to read more about Electronics?

(ContentDesk) July 18, 2004 -- Every school year parents and students dutifully trudge through the malls in search of the perfect sneaker or the cool new outfit for the coming school year. However, it's unlikely that the new shoe or shirt will benefit them at school like a new room arrangement. How so? According to feng shui, a child's room that is arranged well can positively impact study habits and create better grades. So notes Kathryn Weber, feng shui expert and publisher of The Red Lotus Letter, an online feng shui E-Zine, (www.redlotusletter.com). Feng shui, the Chinese technique for design and arrangement, suggests that rooms that have good energy, or "chi", create happier, well-adjusted children.

Feng shui theories believe that for a child's room to have good "chi," the room must follow certain guidelines to be harmonious. If the guidelines are followed, the room will be more restful, promote good relationships others, and generate good self-esteem. Perhaps most importantly, harmonious children's bedrooms encourage good study habits and promotes greater success in school. Follow these eight feng shui tips to help create a room that inspires your child to study more and to do better at school this year.1. The room must have a desk.

It sounds obvious, but many kids' only workspace is a bed, the bedroom floor, or the family dining table. Every child needs a suitable study area in the bedroom that includes a desk, chair, and a lamp. Children with study areas are more likely to study. Better still, having a study area keeps all the school books and papers confined to the child's room. Feng shui also teaches that it's best for children to study facing the northeast, the direction of wisdom and learning.

2. Ground your kids with globes.Buy your kids a globe to promote interest in geography and to help ground them and encourage them to study. Add a globe in the Northeast corner of the bedroom, if possible, as this is the wisdom corner and the globe helps give this area more weight.3. Create an achievement area.Every child needs to have recognition for a job well done. A perfect way to gain this is to create an achievement area on the South wall of the bedroom.

The South is the recognition area, and it is the perfect place to pin up awards, papers with good grades, letters of recommendation, ribbons or trophies. Hanging a roomy bulletin board here to make an "atta' boy" or "atta' girl" spot in your child's room will do wonders for their self-worth and desire to achieve more. 4. Hang a crystal in the Northeast (study)corner of the room.Crystals are used to make computer chips go faster, so why not use them to make your child study more effectively? Hang a crystal in the study location to create more study chi and to help sharpen your child's ability to process or think! Another option is to place a clear quartz crystal on the desk. These enhance concentration -- particularly for tests.5.

Put your child in the command position.Avoid having children face a wall when studying because this represents an obstacle. They should be able to when someone enters the room. Position the desk so that they can see the door.6. Display maps and other educational artwork. Maps are another way to ground and encourage educational pursuits.

They encourage "worldly" interest and curiosity and they make suitable images for a child's room. Avoid scary creatures, pictures depicting violence, or sad or dark subjects. Instead, lift their sights with star maps or images of planets.7. Eliminate TV from the bedroom.Sadly, too many of today's children have TVs in their bedrooms. This is a feng shui no-no because it can make children much less likely to study and rest fully.

If your child doesn't study as much as you would like and has a TV in the bedroom, ask yourself what is more important: television or school?8. Shells and fish are symbols of education.Conch shells and koi or goldfish are excellent symbols of educational success. Place the conch shell in the Northeast corner of the bedroom. Or, hang a picture of koi or goldfish in the Northeast corner. It is not recommended to keep live fish in the bedroom as water in the bedroom is associated with loss.Kathryn Weber is a master feng shui consultant and publisher of the online feng shui E-Zine, The Red Lotus Letter (http://www.redlotusletter.com).

She has been quoted in Seventeen Magazine, First for Women, Martial Arts Professional Magazine, and in numerous websites.

Dynamic Functions (http://www.dynamicfunctions.com) would like to announce the launch of a new website, Ace Televisions (http://www.acezero.com). Ace Televisions offers a selection of TVs in association with Amazon.com. We also offer a Television Buying Guide, which outlines basic steps to keep in mind when buying TVs.Our buying guide offers a basic outline of some things to keep in mind when making your television purchase, including a table of what television you can expect to purchase depending on your budget.Buying a television can be loosely broken down into steps:Step 1) Analyze your budget. LCD and Plasma screens will offer small screen sizes for the dollar than curved tube televisions.Step 2) Choose your aspect ratio?widescreen or full screen (4:3). The most common reasons mentioned for choosing a widescreen are that DVDs are more suited for this format, and the consumer market as a whole is shifting towards the widescreen direction.

Another reason is that widescreen TVs are better suited for our natural viewing area. Many people do not realize, however, that a widescreen stretches images that come in 4:3 format.Step 3) Choose your television type. This can be the most confusing and complicated step, given the wide array of technologies on the market today. Budget considerations can be the primary factor here, but other considerations apply as well, such as resolution and black level. Recently, front projectors have been gaining in popularity?these are cheaper alternatives to large television screens.

They are mainly used in home theater systems, but are not display sets in the traditional sense.Step 4) Select the size of the television. Remember to make sure the TV you choose fits inside your entertainment center with an inch of leeway on the top and the sides, and a few inches in the back.At http://www.acezero.com, a wide variety of TVs are listed, from Projection Televisions to Projectors. After you've ordered your new satellite TV system your next step is to install it. Here you have the option of installing your satellite TV system yourself, or letting a professional do it for you. Here's what's involved ...

Do-It-Yourself Satellite TV Installation

Here's a step-by-step guide to satellite TV installation:

1.First, you need to mount your satellite dish on your roof or on a south-facing wall. Pick a location where there are no trees or tall buildings nearby.

2.If you live in a condo or an apartment complex where you aren't allowed to
mount your dish outside, you can mount it inside or on your balcony using a portable stand which can be ordered from your satellite TV dealer.

3.After installing your dish, you need to connect your cable to your dish then feed the cable through your house walls to the rooms where you have your TVs.

4.Next, connect your TVs to your satellite TV receivers, connect the cables from your dish to your receivers, then connect your receivers to the nearest telephone jacks with telephone wire.

5.Now turn on your TV and your receiver and have someone monitor the satellite TV provider's signal strength menu on your TV while you use a compass to aim your dish by setting the correct azimuth (direction).

Then move your dish up, down, and sideways to obtain the correct elevation (angle), and skew (dish rotation).

6.Finally, you'll need to contact your satellite TV provider to activate your system.

Note: If you're going to do your own satellite TV installation, I recommend purchasing a satellite TV installation kit from your dealer that comes with an installation guide and all the necessary hardware.

Professional Satellite TV Installation

Installation fees vary from dealer to dealer and can cost $100 to $200 dollars or more, depending on how many receivers you want installed and how complicated it will be to run the cable through your house walls.

The good news is the two major satellite TV providers -- DISH Network and DIRECTV -- are currently promoting their services by offering a free satellite TV system that includes free installation. The only catch is you must sign up for their service, but with prices starting at $19.99 a month for service, that's a bargain.

After you order your satellite TV service, your dealer will call you to schedule an installation time that's convenient for you. This will be anywhere from one to five days after you place your order.

After your installer installs your system, he or she will show you how to operate it and will answer any questions you may have.

Bottom Line

Unless you're handy with tools and enjoy tinkering with electronics, I recommend having a professional do your satellite TV installation for you. With the free satellite TV system and free installation package from DISH Network and DIRECTV, it's a deal that's hard to beat.

Why do it yourself when you can do it for free?
